20 years in 20 minutes. We filmed and edited this 20-year anniversary video for the Kokua Hawaiʻi Foundation in 2023. KHF is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 2003 by Kim and Jack Johnson. It has been dedicated to fostering environmental education in the schools and communities of Hawaiʻi for two decades.

Cori has been shooting ever since she got her first camera at 10 years old. After graduating from McGill University with a B.A. in Sociology and Communication, she journeyed around the world working as a digital nomad (graphic and web designer) for several years. While exploring the Hawaiian Islands, she met Tristan, fell in love, and together they traveled around Europe, Asia, and North Africa. They started shooting videos professionally along the way, before eventually coming back to Hawaii.
Cori is a nature junkie, dog mum, and tech wizard.
Creative Director
Tristan, a native New Yorker, grew up spending summers on the beach. His love of wave-riding and a desire for adventure eventually brought him to Hawaii, the birthplace of surfing. There, he co-founded a community beach cleanup non-profit with friends called Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii. When Tristan met Cori, they hatched a plan for international travel and Tristan was rescued from the unholy world of hotel management. They traveled across continents, making videos, diving deep into the art of storytelling. Tristan is a self-described autodidact, committed to constantly learning and growing. Cori believes he’s addicted to information. Tristan feels it’s a healthy commitment.
Full-Service Video Production, Strategic Content Planning, & Photography
Our work spans a variety of multimedia content, but we specialize in cinematic documentary storytelling. Our passion lies in diving into complex topics and crafting stories that inspire audiences to engage in meaningful, positive action.
Individual Projects: Each project is unique. Our process begins with a discovery session to understand your business and your goals. From there, we will propose strategic video solutions tailored to your primary objectives. Then with your input, we will create a customized creative brief and budget for your project.
Content Partnership: For clients seeking long-term collaboration, we offer content partnerships. We’ll deeply integrate with your team, develop a long-term strategy, and produce content regularly for your business.
We’re here for the entire process from pre-production to post-production. Whether you approach us with a specific concept or simply recognize the need for video in your business, we provide our expertise every step of the way.
We enjoy conceptualizing and telling stories through video that will help you achieve your most pressing goals.
We’ll be your partner in everything video-related — from scriptwriting to filming, all the way to delivering the final product to you.
We will make you the highest quality video in the shortest time possible.
Turnaround varies with a project's complexity. While a basic event video may be delivered within a week, intricate commercial or documentary projects requiring multiple filming days and locations can span weeks or months, contingent on the project's depth and scope. The length of the editing process hinges on the volume and frequency of client revisions.
We typically require a 50% payment of the total invoice upon signing the Statement of Work contract.
Reach out to us via email at info@wakefulstate.com with a brief overview of your project vision. We'll promptly respond and arrange a meeting to discuss your project.

Absolutely. We pride ourselves on being a full-service video production company.
We manage every phase of video creation, from initial conception to the final deliverables. While other companies or freelancers might focus solely on specific stages like filming or editing, we work to provide an all-inclusive solution.
By choosing full-service video production, you can save time, effort, and cost by centralizing all aspects of production with one team.
We operate as a dynamic and versatile two-person team. Together, we deliver a production quality that traditionally would require a considerably larger crew. When the project calls for it, we will incorporate trusted collaborators to assist in the video production process.
Typically, we offer one major revision round and two minor revision rounds. However, this can vary by project.
Major revisions are defined as any significant changes to the narrative of the story, edit, inclusion, and/or removal of entire scenes or voiceover, change in the soundtrack, and anything that significantly impacts the overall story or visuals.
Minor revisions are defined as any minor rearrangement, removal, edit, or addition of footage that won’t significantly affect the narrative or story, such as audio levels, color balance, and graphics.
Our unique value lies in collaborating with clients deeply invested in their work and, often, a broader social or environmental mission. Most of our clients are esteemed experts in their domains, which can sometimes create a challenge in communicating to a less savvy audience.
Here's where we come in: we channel the fresh perspective of the audience, helping our clients distill and communicate the crux of their offerings. Our ultimate goal is to craft narratives that resonate, drive engagement, and further our clients' missions.
Ensuring our subjects feel comfortable and confident on camera is one of our core strengths. We provide guidance, coaching, and a relaxed environment to help alleviate any anxieties.
As for preparation, we'll offer specific tips and practices before the shoot date to ensure you're feeling ready to go.
Production days can be really fun but also nerve-wracking if you are going to be on camera. Your comfort and confidence on camera is our highest priority.
We recommend choosing solid colors as they appear best on screen, while intricate patterns or overly bright colors might distract from your message. If you have branded clothing, that can be a great choice. However, any professional attire you're comfortable in will suffice. When in doubt, think "business casual."
Distance is no barrier for us, thanks to advanced collaborative tools.
We currently employ Frame.io, a fantastic viFrame.iodeo review and collaboration platform. With it, you can pin comments directly to specific timestamps in the video, ensuring clear and precise feedback.
This tool facilitates a smoother revision process and expedites the delivery of the final product. Our clients have found this approach not only intuitive but also highly efficient.
Here’s a quick video explaining how to leave a comment with Frame.io.
We have established partnerships with skilled animators to cater to specific project needs.
Share your vision with us, and we'll find the best route to realize it, leveraging our in-house skills or collaborating with specialized experts.
