Wehiwehi Native Hawaiian Artists Residency

10 Day Residency @ Shangri la Museum of Islamic Art & Design

Wakeful State is honored to collaborate with Shangri La Museum, a center of the Doris Duke Foundation, in documenting the Wehiwehi artist residency. This transformative 10-day residency gathered Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) artists who work at the intersection of indigenous identity and contemporary performance. Through our video storytelling and photography, we aimed to capture the depth, creativity, and cultural significance of this program, highlighting the powerful work of artists shaping new pathways in performance and self-expression.

Wakeful State is committed to amplifying the voices of indigenous artists and preserving their stories through compelling visuals that reflect the heart of Wehiwehi’s mission. We extend our gratitude to Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture, & Design and the Doris Duke Foundation for entrusting us with capturing this vital cultural exchange.
