Ka‘a I Ka Wiwo‘ole: Brave Enough from the Frontlines of Our Climate Resilient Futures

We collaborated with the Institute for Climate and Peace (ICP) on this project, highlighting their Ka‘a I Ka Wiwo‘ole Program—an initiative dedicated to cultivating leadership, peacebuilding, and climate resilience among young women. Through apprenticeships, workshops, and curriculum implementation, the program equips participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to address climate challenges, while emphasizing culturally responsive and community-based approaches.

ICP, co-founded by Dr. Maya Soetoro, focuses on the intersection of climate resilience and peacebuilding, emphasizing the importance of positive peace—a proactive approach that builds supportive, equitable systems to reduce conflict and environmental vulnerability. Soetoro and her team work closely with communities, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, to amplify Indigenous wisdom, intergenerational leadership, and grassroots solutions.

Wakeful State’s role in this collaboration includes visual storytelling and messaging development, ensuring that the program’s impact is communicated effectively. By crafting compelling narratives, Wakeful State helps highlight the experiences of young women leaders, amplify community-driven solutions, and bring greater visibility to the climate and peace nexus.
